A note from Pulse — the Pulse Weekly Leaderboard is, effective immediately, no longer weekly

Pulse announces a cadence review of the Pulse Weekly Leaderboard. Effective from the cycle opening today, the board operates on a 21-day cycle rather than a seven-day one, and — per what Pulse's brand guidelines describe as "trimming for clarity" — the Weekly qualifier is retired. The Pulse Leaderboard now closes every three weeks. Winners are named on the Monday after. Prizes remain the same categories, scaled to the longer window. Pulse takes stock of Pulse.

Pulse is pleased to announce the outcome of an internal cadence review conducted by Pulse’s accounting department over the past several cycles. Effective from the cycle opening today, the Pulse Weekly Leaderboard operates on a 21-day cycle rather than a seven-day one. In line with what Pulse’s brand guidelines describe as “trimming for clarity, retaining for prestige,” the Weekly qualifier is retired. The board is, from this cycle forward, the Pulse Leaderboard.

Pulse’s accounting department has, per its earlier characterization, described the internal budget conversation leading up to this decision as “productive.” It has additionally requested we note, on its behalf, that the review’s findings were “structurally favourable to the reader” and “consistent with the Leaderboard Desk’s editorial direction of travel.” Pulse has been asked not to elaborate further on what either of those phrases might specifically refer to. Pulse considers this consistent with the review’s tradition.

What changes, practically. The board’s cycle is three weeks long instead of one. The next winners will be named on the Monday after the current cycle closes. Prize categories rotate as before — vouchers, currency slot, GPU rental, benchmark probes — with each cycle’s prize scaled to reflect the longer window. Basic Division, Junior Division, and the same podium-per-bracket convention hold.

What does not change. The bracket structure, the qualifying threshold, the promote-only tier invariant, the submission cadence itself (every sale still writes to the board in real time), and the response the Junior Division has established across the last eight cycles all continue exactly as they were. Ongoing streaks are considered continuous under the extended cadence — a decision the Leaderboard Desk is characterizing as “editorial continuity” and Pulse’s accounting department is, in the same set of minutes we have already quoted, characterizing as “a matter of not confusing the base.”

Why now. Pulse’s accounting department has advised that the decision reflects “a strategic reallocation of prize acquisition cadence in service of narrative depth per cycle,” and additionally that “the board’s readers deserve the room a three-week arc affords a story that a seven-day one occasionally does not.” Pulse is comfortable characterizing the direction as “the Pulse Leaderboard growing into a longer form.” Pulse has been asked, in the same conversation whose minutes have been quoted throughout, not to characterize the direction in any other way.

One more note. The Pulse Leaderboard remains, as it has been since it began, sponsored by Pulse. Pulse remains, as it has been since it began, comfortable with that arrangement.

The current cycle opens today and closes at the end of Week 41. Winners will be named the Monday after. Congratulations, in advance, to whoever earns the first Pulse Leaderboard cycle. Congratulations, retroactively, to whoever has been earning the Pulse Weekly Leaderboard until now.

The board resets in twenty-one days.
